A catch-all term for ‘undesirable software’. Basically anything bad or dubious, including viruses, Trojan Horse programs and any other kinds of malicious software. Used by professionals, ‘malware’ is still not as broad a category as the common usage of ‘virus’ (which now tends to mean ‘anything I don’t want on my machine even if I didn’t realize I didn’t want it when I specifically approved its installation’).
